I love seeing results. Whether it be clearing acne, softening fine lines, minimizing dark spots or simply deep pore cleansing. One of the fastest ways to see significant results in skincare is through a series of chemical peels. Chemical peels promote the growth of new skin to generate and improve appearance by removing the very top layers of old skin cells and replacing them with new, fresh ones.

My favorite peel (especially here in Colorado) is the Lactic Acid Peel. It’s safe and effective for all skin types but works especially well for dry, sensitive, thinner and aging skin.

FEATURES & BENEFITS:

  • Exfoliates dead skin
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Tightens, tones and smoothes skin texture
  • Reduces hyperpigmentation (dark spots)
  • Stimulates skin cell activity (brings new, healthy skin cells to the surface)

This peel is perfect for someone who has never had a peel or is starting a series of peels. It’s working on the very top layer of the skin so there is no need for a “recovery time” and you won’t experience any visible peeling… Just clear, fresh, healthy looking skin!

To experience the Lactic Acid Peel - book the “Quickie Peel” at StudioBSpa.com. It takes about 30 minutes and is $55. Here’s how the appointment would work:

  • Relax. You can even change into a wrap if you’re more comfortable!
  • Deep cleanse with the best cleanser for your skin type - I usually use the Lactic Acid Cleaner or Glycolic Acid Cleanser to prep the skin.
  • Peel time! You will feel a slight tingle or itch as the Lactic Acid Peel Mask is applied. We’ll leave it on for about 5 minutes. That’s all you need!
  • To calm and soothe the skin, we’ll apply a Cooling Mask. While the mask is calming the skin, you’ll receive a relaxing scalp massage
  • Moisturize! We’ll finish up with a nice moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and of course follow up with some Solar Block (sun protection).
  • In about 30 minutes, you’re on your way to healthier skin! Consider it a lunch time or after work treat.

A lot of people are hesitant to try chemical peels. Due to the fact that many of us have seen the Sex & The City episode where Samantha gets a peel and has to wear a veil to hide her raw skin! The truth is, there’s many levels of chemical peels and they are all beneficial when applied correctly and safely. Feel free to ask if you have any questions : brittany@studiobspa.com.

posted on 27.04.13 When To Apply Concealer via: The Beauty Department

I get asked this question often so I’m answering it in a way that everyone benefits! Always apply your foundation all over before applying concealer. Think about it… when you apply foundation first, it covers up a lot of imperfections on its own, cutting down the amount of imperfections you need to go back and spot conceal. If you had applied the concealer first, you would have ended up using a lot more concealer than you would have needed to and done twice the work. Also, if you apply foundation with a brush or sponge, you can move the concealer that you’ve already applied off of the targeted area (such a waste of time and product!).

Concealer can get heavy and cakey if applied too thickly so first see how much of the dark circles/blemishes/dark spots that the foundation can knock out on its own. Then take a step back and see if you need to go back with a thin layer of concealer directly on the areas. You might be surprised how little you need!

So remember:

  1. First apply foundation all over with a foundation brush or sponge.
  2. Step back a foot from the mirror for perspective then lean in forward a foot and turn your head side to side for a close-up analysis to determine which (if any) areas need a little more coverage.
  3. Spot conceal with a thin layer of your favorite concealer using a concealer brush. Always apply in thin layer increments instead of one thick layer.

posted on 07.04.13 Running - Short Legs & High Altitude

In high school I ran cross country. It was great - I was in some seriously good shape and even though I wasn’t close to being the best, I could still finish a 3 mile race. This was in Oklahoma where there are hills, not mountains and the elevation is 722 ft. Now, I can barely run a mile without stopping for a breather every quarter mile. Pathetic, I know.

{I’d like to take a moment and blame my short legs and the higher elevation}

I can’t honestly place the blame for my running weakness there. The truth is I’m out of shape. Sure, I hit the gym fairly regularly for some light cardio (elliptical) and strength training (I recently upgraded to the 5 lb weights) but that’s nothing compared to running for me. This morning, I decided to challenge myself to run twice a week.

I needed a little motivation. I put on my cutest workout outfit and downloaded some energizing music. At first, I was thinking about how beautiful it was outside and how good this was going to make my skin look.

After 5 minutes, I was thinking about quitting, trying to breathe and making a detour to the Rio Grande to grab a margarita (no one would know if I quit early, right?). Lucky for me, my Nike App chimed in at that moment with my average mile pace “you goal is in sight - keep it up!”. This made me remember that my run was being tracked. I still had to stop for air but it kept me away from the sugary margarita calling my name.

By the end, I was feeling great. Though I still had to stop a few times, I finished my 1.5 mile run. It wasn’t the best I’ve ever run but I know I tried my best. Best part - my margarita cravings were replaced with a need for healthy snacks.

I have two months till the wedding day - woo hoo! My goal over the next two months is to get into good enough shape to run the entire 1.5 miles without stopping. It might seem like a short run, but it’s a solid starting point to me! I ‘pin’ a lot of workout ideas to my Pinterest so if you want to get motivated, check it out. Here’s a sample of what I pin: image
