posted on 13.03.12 Organic - Not Just For Eating

Organic. It’s so hot right now.

There are many Whole Food shoppers and Yoga addicts who focus on body health and mind health - living healthy lifestyles and maintaining healthy diets. FUN FACT! Your body has the ability to absorb up to 80% of what you put ON it.. Think about it, doctors prescribe topical medications all the time.

If you’re taking care of the inside of your body by eating organic foods, why not use organic skin care products? They will benefit your skin the same way organic foods do! It’s all about those antioxidants, baby! Organic ingredients contain up to 30% MORE antioxidants than their non-organic counterparts.

Seriously, that’s 30% more anti-aging benefits for your face!

HOW? This is due to the fact that there are companies spraying their plants with pesticides and chemicals to help them fight off insects and other environmental threats. Meanwhile, their organic counterparts are out there building up their antioxidants to become these super hero plants that can not only fight off the same threats but they can pass off these super powers to your skin, too!

I recently accepted a position with Pangea Organics, a local {to Boulder, CO} skin care company that I have always highly respected because of their dedication to the integrity of their ingredients and dedication to sustainability. They make using organic skin care easy and effective- I couldn’t be happier about joining such a healthy, happy team!

posted on 13.03.12 End Of Cleanse - Feeling Balanced.

I’m sure you’ve heard that everything you put in your body is reflected on your skin. Well, don’t under estimate the truth behind it! After 10 days of cleansing, my skin was glowing and so was my energy level. I spent the last weekend in California at the Natural Products Expo West {posts and pics to come} and I’m not sure I would have been able to stay positive the entire time had I not spent the 10 days prior focusing on a healthy lifestyle.

Life is all about balance. Too much of a good thing can be unhealthy but so can too much of a bad thing. If you have been thinking about making a positive change to your lifestyle, there’s no better time than now :)

posted on 23.02.12 How Clean Is Your Skin?

Days 2 & 3 of my AdvoCare Cleanse were rough.. I cheated by eating pizza on Day 2 (yes, I am weak and pizza is my greatest weakness) but paid for it yesterday. They say that the first 3 days are when all your toxins are being released so it’s normal to have a headache and not feel great.

They should tell you that if you cheat, your body retaliates against you. I’m not sure if it was the toxins or the forbidden pizza but my skin broke out and I had a feeling of overall unattractiveness yesterday. Needless to say, I learned my lesson and am even more dedicated than before.

While I’m cleansing my body, I thought I’d share some tips on how you can get the ultimate clean skin for yourself! Oh.. The joy of being Clean!

  • Pick the right cleanser. Picking the right cleanser can be just as important as picking your perfect career - and sometimes just as difficult! Oily skin responds best to foamy cleansers (my favorite foaming Pangea Organics cleanser) while dry skin needs some extra moisture from creamy cleansers (my favorite creamy Pangea Organics cleanser).
  • Wash your face every time you shower! Nothing makes your pores open wide like standing in a warm, steamy shower. With the pores open, you can cleanse deep into the skin and remove even the most stubborn bacteria.
  • Remove makeup first. Whether you wear a little makeup or a lot of makeup, it’s important to remove it before cleansing. At night, I like to wash my face once to remove my Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer (favorite beauty product) and then cleanse a second time to pick up any dirt or excess oils left behind. If you don’t remove your makeup first, you might not be cleansing your skin like you think you are!
  • Take it up a notch! If you want guaranteed clean skin, invest in a Clarisonic Cleansing System. The results speak for themselves. 1 minute gives you healthy, glowing skin that will begin to reduce the signs of aging over time!

posted on 20.02.12 Motivation : Advocare Cleanse Day 1

Happy President’s Day! It’s about this time when you realize there are some resolutions you will keep and many (most) you will not. Two things happened last week to make me rethink my motivation to keep my resolution of being healthy.

1. I heard about this easy healthy cleanse by a company called AdvoCare

2. I booked tickets to St. Maarten! *This MAY have been a little more motivating.. 5 weeks away!

I started my cleanse today. There’s no doubt in my mind that when you make the decision to give up sugar and dairy, the only thing you want is sugar and dairy (aka: icecream). So, to distract myself from the cravings, I will be obsessing over my new favorite site: Pinterest. My favorite beauty pin today:

{The Piece-y Pony by thebeautydepartment.com

I have now found the perfect solution to a rushed morning. Not only was this an easy look to recreate but it looks polished and adorable at the same time. Trust me, try it.

posted on 13.02.12 My First Fashion Week Experience

As a lover of the beauty industry, there’s nothing more exciting than to see what the future will hold with upcoming trends and new ideas. There’s no better place to catch a glimpse than Fashion Week. This past weekend, I flew out to NY to catch a show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, do a little spring shopping and enjoy some nightlife with friends. My first show was Rebecca Taylor and I had a genuinely amazing experience.

“It’s romantic. It’s about a girl with a broken heart. The hues are a little bit evil. We have rich emeralds, sapphire blues, bordeauxs…” -Rebecca Taylor

The models’ skin was glowing and pale with neutral eyes and lips while their hair was pulled back in a textured, messy low fishtail braid with blunt side-swept bangs. This kept all eyes on the looks that were deep and dark with occasional flecks of gold. I loved her looks- especially the chic fur boots.

More updates to come!
